Scottish Gas Energy for Tomorrow Fund

Application open on the 2 November 2026 – find out more about the fund.

What is it?

The Scottish Gas Energy for Tomorrow Fund is Scottish Rugby and Scottish Gas’ new core partnership programme.

Launching on 2 November 2026, the Scottish Gas Energy for Tomorrow Fund offers matched funding, energy advice and crowdfunding support to help clubs raise the funds they need to make lasting, energy-saving improvements and reduce long-term operating costs.

Purpose of the fund

The Energy for Tomorrow fund is designed to support clubs in becoming more environmentally sustainable by enabling energy-efficiency improvements that create greener, healthier and warmer club facilities for players, volunteers, and local communities.

Through tailored energy-efficiency advice and access to match grant funding, clubs can now have an even bigger impact on reduce energy consumption, lower carbon emissions and improve the quality and resilience of their facilities.

The programme also supports the wider ambition of helping rugby clubs contribute to the Scottish Government’s Net Zero targets while delivering lasting financial and environmental benefits across the game.

About the fund

Over the next three years, Scottish Rugby and Scottish Gas will award up to five clubs each year for the next three years a maximum of £20,000 in matched funding each. This means for every pound a successful club raises, the Scottish Gas Energy for Tomorrow Fund will match it, up to £20,000. The match funding will be used by clubs to complete facility improvement identified by retrofit surveys.

Scottish Rugby has partnered with Crowdfunder so that clubs will get expert advice, plus support from Scottish Rugby’s Regional Development Manager to run crowdfunding campaigns to reach their campaign goals.

How will crowdfunding play a part?

Rugby clubs awarded the fund will need to create a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for their project. Crowdfunder is the online platform where clubs will do this.

With Crowdfunder’s support, clubs will be able to create a donation collection webpage (Example here), tell people what you’re doing, and invite friends, supporters and the wider community to donate and help make it happen. The webpage will track your donations and tell people about the project you are running the campaign for.
