Scottish Rugby confirmed today that it had not received repayment of almost £1.4 million outstanding from Edinburgh Rugby. In conjunction with its legal advisers, Scottish Rugby will review its options over the weekend to determine its next step to recover the outstanding funds. Scottish Rugby Chief Executive, Gordon McKie, said: “Our main focus now is to bring this matter to a speedy conclusion, in the best long term interests of rugby in Scotland.” McKie expressed regret that discussions this week with Edinburgh Rugby had failed to find a solution to the dispute. However, he indicated that Scottish Rugby was prepared to continue discussions with Edinburgh Rugby over the weekend in an effort to resolve the matter and avoid legal action. Scottish Rugby demanded repayment of almost £1.4 million on Thursday 2 August following Edinburgh Rugby’s termination of their operating agreement (known as the Facilities agreement). The funds represent a proportion of the funding the governing body has advanced Edinburgh Rugby since July 2006. As a result of the operating agreement being terminated, Edinburgh Rugby no longer has any rights to play or train at Murrayfield and Scottish Rugby has asked Edinburgh Rugby when they plan to vacate the stadium. Scottish Rugby has also confirmed that it has withdrawn from making any future funding available to Edinburgh Rugby, following their breach of the operational agreement.
