Selkirk build for the future following Scottish Rugby funding
Selkirk Rugby Club officially opened their new changing room extension with the help of Scottish Rugby President, Rob Flockhart, Scotland and Glasgow Warriors wing Lee Jones, and Scotland Club XV and Heriot’s second-row, Callum Marshall at Philiphaugh last weekend. The Borders club, secured£37,500 from the first round of Scottish Rugby’s Club Sustainability Fund, to upgrade their facilities and accommodate a growing number of teams with a further£37,500 from sportscotland taking the project investment up to£75,000.Selkirk are one of 97 clubs to have benefitted from the Club Sustainability Fund after a sum of£1.6million was set aside by Scottish Rugby to support and improve projects in the domestic game across a four-year period following BT investment.Sunday’s ceremony also marked the Selkirk Rhinos’ annual mini-rugby tournament which celebrated the large volume of players currently involved in the club’s mini section.Scottish Rugby President, Rob Flockhart, said: “This is a huge move forward for the club, and Scottish Rugby is thrilled it is in a position to help such an exciting development through its Club Sustainability Fund.It was great to see so many players taking part in the club’s mini-rugby tournament. I wish Selkirk Rugby Club every success in the future.”The BT National League Division 1 club worked closely with local tradesmen to develop drainage and heating plans for the new changing rooms with members of the community having also contributed to the development of the project. Former Selkirk President and Scotland internationalist, John Rutherford, said: “The development of our changing rooms is set to make a huge difference and it is a wonderful facility for rugby in Selkirk.We are a community club and we rely on bringing our young players through and now we can give the players good changing rooms.
