Strathclyde University 7s head to France for ER7 Cup
Strathclyde University 7s are set to compete in the European Rugby Seven Cup competition in Lille, France, this Easter weekend (Saturday 15 – Monday 17 April). The three-day international tournament will see a host of European rugby universities compete for the ER7 Cup with 200 players participating from across 16 teams. Strathclyde University have already enjoyed a successful BUCS competition with their 1st XV finishing second in North B and their 2nd XV lifting the Conference Cup last month to record an undefeated season, while Strathclyde Women fulfilled every fixture in their first season playing within a BUCS league.Strathclyde University Rugby President, Will Yates, said: “It is the first time we will have competed at the sevens tournament in Lille and we are all looking forward to the cross-border competition.This year’s university teams have achieved a great deal and our involvement with an international tournament will only improve our standard of rugby as we compete against top universities from across Europe.”Strathclyde University Rugby Committee Member, Danny Dineen, said: “After a successful year finishing second in North B, and winning both the Varsity and Glasgow Cup we can now turn our attention to sevens, starting with Lille this weekend.It will be a great opportunity to compete against teams from Europe, as well as enjoying the events that the hosts are holding for the teams.”
