Super 4s kick off at Oriam

18 Oct 2017

The BT Sport Academy U19 ‘Super 4s’ kicked off today (18 October) as the four regions played back-to-back in fast-paced, shortened games.

Law variations included restrictions on kick offs to foster competition for the ball, drop goal conversions and a limit on driving mauls, to raise intensity and tempo in the matches.

As the first matches of their kind, the games were designed to exemplify the ‘Scottish Way’ – the blueprint of how Scottish teams at all levels aim to play.

Exciting and intense matches played out, treating the crowd to flowing and ambitious rugby.

Scottish Rugby’s Head of Academy and Performance Programmes, Stephen Gemmell, said: “These matches have been about highlighting aspects of the game that we see as increasingly important in modern rugby.

“The players involved today will appreciate the need to play and make decisions at a high tempo – something that will stand them in good stead as they progress their playing careers.”
