Swift smashes records at Scottish Gas Murrayfield
American superstar Taylor Swift broke Scottish concert attendance records at Scottish Gas Murrayfield this weekend.
Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour landed in the UK on Friday for three shows at Scotland’s largest stadium in Edinburgh.
The much-anticipated concert welcomed fans from across the world to Edinburgh for the 97th, 98th and 99th legs of the highest grossing tour of all time!
The tour, which is going to 22 countries across 152 dates, brought with it a community of friendship bracelet-trading fans all excited to experience the sell-out show and spend an evening in the company of one of the world’s true music superstars.
Records were broken nightly, with Taylor herself announcing it to the crowd on Friday, declaring shortly after coming on stage: “I’ve not got to be in Scotland for almost a decade now, the last time was almost ten years ago and I was wondering, what’s it going to be like, how are they going to be as a crowd?
“Well, you kind of answered me before I even got on stage because I had someone pull me aside and said, ‘we checked this twenty times and we swear it’s accurate, tonight’s concert is the most highly attended stadium show in Scottish history.’
“Thank you, Edinburgh! That’s absolutely the wildest way to welcome a lass to your city.”
With a crowd of almost 73,000, night one overtook Harry Styles’ concert attendance from last summer (65,000) to be the highest-attended stadium concert in Scottish history.
Each subsequent night then broke the record for the night before.
Scottish Rugby’s Director of Stadium and Development Operations, Mark Laidlaw, said on the record: “This was a huge achievement. Not just for everyone from Scottish Rugby who worked on making this event happen, but also for all partners that we have worked with since the tour was announced last year.
“We work closely with Edinburgh City Council, the emergency services and local travel providers for all of our events and I would like to thank them all for their support, both for the recent concerts and for other such events.
“We also have to thank the almost 3,000 front of house show-day staff and volunteers that help us deliver a safe and enjoyable event. From Blue Crew volunteers to ticketing, to stewards to First Aiders and many more. Events like this really do take a city!
“Scottish Gas Murrayfield has shown again that it really is open for business for all events, and I would like to thank AEG for bringing Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour to our stadium. We hope the rest of the tour is just as successful.”
