Briefly a GHA player at U16 level, he is currently with Glasgow Hawks.

Having played for Scotland U18 in the 2024 Six Nations Festival, McKenna was called up for Scotland U20 ahead of the 2025 U20 Six Nations, featuring in a friendly against Wales U20 in the December before.

Outside of rugby, McKenna is studying Law at Strathclyde University.
