Winners of Mitsubishi Motors Conferences Crowned
Schools and clubs from across Scotland are celebrating after being crowned champions of Scottish Rugby’s Mitsubishi Motors Schools & Youth Conferences.
Ten schools and clubs took home the twelve titles after more than 2,500 matches and 14 rounds of competition.
A total of 150 state schools, 25 independent schools and 104 clubs took part in the competition which runs from late August to mid-December each season.
Scottish Rugby Head of Schools & Youth, Colin Thomson, said: “Congratulations to all our winners in this year’s Mitsubishi Motors Conferences.
“We have seen another excellent term of rugby with fulfilment and the number of matches played at an all-time high.
“Schools and clubs are reaping the benefits of playing competitive matches and feedback continues to be incredibly positive.”
Schools and clubs play in conferences based on their development infrastructure and number of teams they run for young players from S1 (U13) to U18 age groups.
Competition points are awarded to each match played, enabling every team to contribute to the school or club’s success in the overall conference table.
Stirling County and George Watson’s College claimed two conference titles each, such is the depth of their playing pools as both schools were able to field two teams.
Ally Donaldson, Head of Rugby at George Watson’s College, said: “We are delighted to have won the Colt and Grandis Conferences as it involves every single boy in the Senior school who plays rugby.
“It’s testament to the hard work of all the players, coaches and support from parents.”
Hawick were crowned Warrior ‘Borders Town’ Conference champions after coming out top in a closely-contested conference.
Dunfermline, Marr College, Dunbar Grammar School and Berwick Rugby also secured conference wins, while Fettes College and George Heriot’s School brought the total of Edinburgh conference victories to four.
Martin Woodward, Partnership Engagement Manager at Mitsubishi Motors, said: “Many congratulations to all the clubs and schools who took part in this season’s Mitsubishi Motors Conferences, with a special mention to each of the overall winners.
“We are incredibly proud to be supporting this initiative, knowing it is having a positive impact on growing the game within Scotland.”
