22 Aug 2017
The Clan made a winning start in their first match in the International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament in the north of Spain this afternoon.Mixed ability or unified rugby enables players with a learning disability or autism to play alongside those who do not. After a well-fought match against Bradford Bumble Bees, played in good spirit, the Clan ran out 29-5 winners – with tries from Josh Nisbet (Edinburgh Clan) 2, Ryan Caldwell (Ayrshire Clan) 1, Liam Deary (Edinburgh Clan)1 and James Dorrans (Ayrshire Clan) 1 and conversions by Nisbet and Caldwell. The team were excited with the win in temperatures of 30+ degrees C and are now looking forward to a rest tomorrow and preparation for Thursdays match v an Argentine side. Team Manager, Gavin Buonaccorsi said: I’m very proud of how the team performed and bonded together in the true spirit of rugby in difficult conditions due to the heat.We played as a unit with great enabling support. Playing as we did we started the tournament with a win. I’m confident that we will be just as strong against the Argentine side.
