World Rugby: Conditioning for Rugby Level 1

This World Rugby certificated course will develop club, school and community coaches to integrate some basic conditioning and strength training relevant to age and stage of players into their regular training plans.

Course Outline

Conditioning for Rugby is an entry level course designed for current rugby coaches and new volunteers interested in the physical development of mini and youth players. Delivered in two parts, the course will develop coaches understanding of: screening, warm-ups/cool downs, speed and agility, fundamental movement skills and integrated conditioning.

The course will also explore ways to keep conditioning fun and engaging for players, maximising game-based activities and delivery through rugby sessions.

Assessment

This is a competency based course. you will be continually assessed through observation over the course. You will be deemed either competent or not yet competent at the end of the course. ‘Not yet competent’ candidates will be required to sit the course again (no further cost attached).

Payment

Scottish Rugby is able to subsidise the course cost for those working within our member and associate clubs and schools to grow the game at a price of £30.

Prerequisites

Attendees must be minimum 16 years of age and must have completed the following:

  • Completed part 1 of the course prior to the start of the face to face attendance – Conditioning for Rugby, hosted on the World Rugby Passport site HERE
  • Completed Scottish Rugby’s Rugby Right course (including Safeguarding) hosted on SCRUMS.
