2021 contracts announced
Scottish Rugby today announced the Scotland Women players supported by 2021 contracts for the 2019/2020 season.
In addition to the eight players supported last season, Elizabeth Musgrove (Darlington Mowden Park) and Hannah Smith (Watsonians) will receive support through 2021 contracts.
This takes the total number of 2021 contracted players to ten for the season.
The contracts come in varying forms and support players either through direct monetary support or through a partnership agreement with their place of work that allows them the time they need to train and compete.
Head of Women’s and Girls’ Rugby, Gemma Fay, said: “I’m delighted we’re able to offer additional support to two more players as we head towards World Cup qualification.
“Both Hannah and Elizabeth have been key members of both the Scotland Women and Scotland Women 7s squads recently and are going from strength to strength. We are all excited to see how they develop as players over this season.
“The 2021 contracts allow us the flexibility to support players to play or train more in a competitive environment.
“2021 contracts are only a small part of a much wider support network we are investing in to provide players with the opportunity to be the best they can for Scotland.
“Over the past two years both players and staff have worked hard to train more and better, to increase the exposure to international rugby through regular Tests, as well as push each other in their daily training environments.
She continued: “The support goes much wider than the Scottish Rugby Women’s performance staff.
“Scottish-based performance squad players benefit from regional FOSROC Academy support.
“Our clubs and club coaches are really buying into what we are trying to do at International level, which is vital for the future development of the women’s game.
“Ultimately, it’s about providing Scotland Women with the best chance of getting to, and performing at, Women’s Rugby World Cup 2021. That remains our collective ambition.”
