Dempsey will lead the Scotland Women’s team as their existing head coach, Lee Adamson, steps down from his role at the end of the season. On his departure, Adamson said: Scotland gave me an incredible opportunity at a time in my career that was right to coach a national team. I’m very grateful to the Scottish Women’s Rugby Union for giving me that opportunity and I’ll continue to support the Scotland Women’s team from the stands whenever I get the chance. Looking forward to the experience that lies ahead, Dempsey added: I’ve really enjoyed helping coach the Women’s team with Lee. It’s been great to work alongside a guy with his experience and I’m relishing the opportunity that lies ahead. Hugh Campbell, the former national coach for the senior men’s team who will be helping coach the Women’s team, praised Dempsey’s coaching ability and re-iterated the importance of the opportunity for the 28-year-old: Coaching the national Women’s team is a fantastic opportunity for any coach and it’s especially pleasing to see a talented young Scottish coach like Jamie get this chance. There are very few opportunities for young coaches to get experience at international level and Jamie has shown real potential, so I wish him all the very best for the European Championships next month.
