She has been at every training session, and still attends the junior training sessions to encourage them and help out As vice-captain of the Scotland U18s team this year, Lisa led confidently and positively in all their games. Her progress this year has been recognised by others having been nominated player of the match by the opposition in several senior games this year – and has also been called up to train with the senior Scotland Sevens squad. SWRU Volunteer of the Year Marianne Oliver (nominated by clubs, decision by SWRU Executive Board Nominated by 17 of her club players and officials and was credited with being instrumental in: Ensuring a constant and high level of recruitment activity attracting new players to the game of Women’s rugby with minimal resources and facilities Her work on and off the field to keep on top of the administration involved in running Lismore, as well as turning out to play, organise training pitches and – at times – alternative playing pitches has been astonishing. Building up a large core of players to fulfil fixtures and create a real team atmosphere at a crucial and transitional time in the club’s history. SWRU Club of the Year Morgan WRFC Achievements: New team season 2007 – 2008, finished 2nd in the NDL, recruited and retained 30 players, bowl finalists 2008, attended all NDL fixtures 2008 _x0013_ 2009. Morgan WRFC have achieved good results throughout the season at NDL tournaments and have never taken less than 20 players to an NDL day. Morgan WRFC recently played Grangemouth in the Bowl semi-final and the over 100 spectators turned out for the game – a number of spectators unheard of by many other womens teams in the country. The figure illustrates just well Morgan WRFC have been integrated into the club that had no womens rugby until nine months ago. This game was convincingly won by Morgan WRFC seeing us reach the Bowl final in our first season of rugby. SWRU Coach of the Year Jonathon Fisher, Glasgow University Since taking over as coach 2 years ago, Jonny has had a dramatic impact on the club. Glasgow Universitys successes under his coaching have included winning the SWRU Bowl (the first University team to achieve this), finishing second in the National League, reaching the BUSA knock-out stages, and surpassing last years achievement of victory in the Scottish Bowl competition by this year reaching the final of the Plate – holding their own against Premiership opposition along the way. The club paid tribute to Jonnys contribution to the clubs growth which has increased its membership by almost 25% – retaining 20% of those who attended the first freshers taster session in September _x0013_ a hugely impressive achievement considering the vast clubs offered by GUSA and the distractions of University life. * Player of the year awards came from players who had received three or more ‘player of the match nominations throughout the season or if a club had nominated them for SWRU club player of the year. Clubs then voted on the winner at the AGM from the compiled list.
