Scotland A Top Irb Nations Cup Table
17 Jun 2009
Scotland ‘A’ head coach Andy Robinson is pleased to see his team situated at the summit of the IRB Nations Cup tournament table heading into the final game against second-placed France ‘A’ on Sunday (21 June, kick off 6pm BST) at the Stadionul National Arcul de Triumf in Bucharest, but he insists there is still room for improvement. The 49-7 opening day triumph over Russia was followed by a 27-3 victory against Uruguay enabling Scotland ‘A’ to chalk up nine points with France ‘A’ registering the same amount after wins over Italy ‘A’ and Romania. But the Scots are the tournament leaders with a superior points’ difference of 66; 46 more than France ‘A’ setting up an exciting finale at the weekend. As a result, Robinson says he is encouraged by some of the progress made by his squad so far, but stressed there are a number of areas that need to be worked on before the final match in four days time. Robinson said: “The players have worked extremely hard since we arrived in Bucharest, so in that respect it is really pleasing to see all that work translate into the fact we are at the top of the table. “But there are still plenty of improvements that need to be made between now and our final match against France ‘A’. “France ‘A’ have a number of quality players and collectively the players know they must raise their level of performance for what will be a really tough challenge. “Over the first two games, we have highlighted the positives, but also more importantly addressed the mistakes in order to improve every player’s game understanding.”
