Scotland Strive For Consistency In Baking Heat
Scotland completed their final preparations for tomorrow’s Test match against Fiji with the salutary warning of head coach Andy Robinson ringing loud and clear. As the players left Churchill Park in Lautoka, Robinson noted anew that consistency must be Scotland’s companion if the team are to progress. The special victory over Australia ten days ago must be the springboard to a distinctly structured performance for Scotland to prosper in the sugar city that is the heart of Fiji’s “burning west”. If it becomes a game of sevens tomorrow then Scottish supporters could be in for a distinctly sticky afternoon. All 22 players finished the session without any mishap – those outwith the squad for tomorrow’s match also trained, including Joe Ansbro. The forecast for kick-off time tomorrow suggests it will be sunny with a temperature of 28C. It’s a wide pitch at Lautoka – the local groundstaff hadn’t quite finished all the pitch markings as Scotland arrived to train – and, just like Murrayfield, there are large in-goal areas. The game will be shown live in the UK on ESPN with a 3am start and repeated later on Saturday at 2pm.
