Liam Draycott, a 23-year-old full-back/wing who joined Currie this season, will fly out with the Scotland 7s squad to Australia tonight as they prepare for the first leg of the HSBC 7s World Series.Draycott, South Africa-born but who qualifies for Scotland through his Edinburgh born father Simon, becomes the 12th and final member of the squad for the Gold Coast sevens which will take place in Queensland on 13 and 14 October.Scotland 7s head coach and programme manager Phil Greening said: “Liam has put his hand up in training from the wider squad.  He has met all our standards and has looked good in training.I also saw him on the sevens circuit over the summer and he deserves this chance.Draycott told www.scottishrugby.org: “I’m really thrilled. I came over to Scotland when I’d finished school in South Africa and played for Edinburgh Accies, including at Melrose 7s.”I didn’t really know much about sevens in South Africa but when I came back to Scotland and was playing at Musselburgh I was invited along to the wider Scotland sevens squad session on a Wednesday night and really got into my sevens.”Draycott, who was a development officer at Musselburgh, played for the RBS Championship Division B club in the RBS Shield Final against Dunfermline on the main pitch at Murrayfield last season.During the summer, alongside fellow Scotland 7s squad member Peter Jericevich, the Ayr scrum-half, Draycott played sevens in the States for New York Old Blues and the Samurai invitational team.”I just want to get out there, get as much game time as I possibly can and make a winning contribution for Scotland,” he added, looking ahead to the Gold Coast tournament.Scotland 7s will take-on Fiji (12.42pm local-time), Australia (4.20pm local-time) and Tonga (6.08pm local-time) in pool B on day one at the Gold Coast 7s, which takes place on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 October.Scotand 7s squad for the Gold Coast 7s: Chris Dean (Scotland 7s EDP), Michael Fedo (Scotland 7s), Rory Hughes (Scotland 7s EDP), *Peter Jericevich (Ayr), Colin Gregor (Scotland 7s) (captain), Mark Robertson (Scotland 7s), Andrew Turnbull (Scotland 7s), Michael Maltman (Scotland 7s), Colin Shaw (Scotland 7s), Alex Glashan (Scotland 7s EDP), James Fleming (Scotland 7s) and * Liam Draycott (Currie).*sportscotland institute supported player
