Rugby festival celebrates CashBack Schools of Rugby in Scotland’s west
14 Nov 2013
A CashBack for Communities School of Rugby Festival has taken place in Glasgow, celebrating the Scottish Rugby and government initiative that has proved successful in the west of Scotland. Some 11 teams, all at S2 level, turned out for the round-robin competition at St Aloysius’ College in the city centre, with matches of 15 minutes being played and with teams of 15-a-side where possible.Scottish Rugby’s partnership projects manager, Neil Carrie, said: “It was fantastic to see so many of our CashBack Schools of Rugby gathering together to take part in this event. It is clear that the programme’s focus on core skills, game sense and physical competency is having a real benefit in terms of performances on the pitch. “The programme is going from strength to strength with numbers of players and teams continuing to increase in these schools this season.”The teams involved on the day were Carrick Academy, Shawlands Academy, Oban High School, Grange Academy, St Maurice’s High School, Maxwelltown High School, St Andrew’s High, Wallace High School, Paisley Grammar School, Ardrossan Academy and Irvine High School. No particular team won the festival as the programme seeks to reward players’ efforts and teams partaking in the competition. Each individual participant received a medal for taking part.
