Scotland 7s ended the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s in fourth place, their best finish since the 2009 London 7s, where they got to the Cup semi-finals, a third place play-off did not exist at that time.Scotland 7s’ attention now moves to Twickenham and the final leg of the 2013/14 HSBC Sevens World Series, next weekend (10-11 May).  They have been grouped together with South Africa, France and their first match of day two at the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s.  Scotland now play Canada, their Commonwealth Games opponents, at 16.20pm.Similarly to the Australia game on day one, they let a try in early, but then bounced back and closed their opposition out.  This time the scores were a little closer and one mistake could have ended the game on a whole different note.  Head coach, Stephen Gemmell, said: We showed what we are all about in this Cup quarter-final. Defensively we were outstanding and the players showed how much it means to them to play in front of a home crowd.  Not only that we just beat the second best sevens team in the world just now.We haven’t achieved anything yet though, we have afforded ourselves another opportunity and we have to focus on finishing that job first.Once again, the front three of Scott Riddell, James Eddie and Richie Vernon were impressive at the breakdown and built a platform to allow the backs to move the ball around.  Vernon scored the first try of the match before half-time, but a missed conversion saw the side trailing at the break, 5-7.In the second period, Scotland defended courageously when South Africa had the ball, but they afternoon, in a 7-10 defeat to Canada, who have now achieved that feet for the first time.  Scotland 7s fans do however have one more opportunity at this weekend’s Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s, to cheer on their country.  Scotland play Fiji in the third place play-off at 6.16pm and the gates have been opened for fans to attend for free from 5.30pm.Head coach, Stephen Gemmell, said: We have missed an opportunity here, it’s as simple as that.Canada were very physical at the breakdown and they made life difficult for us.  Fair play to them they played very well.We now move into the third place play-off and will look to finish today on a high.  It’s great that we have opened the gates for fans to come for free this evening, so we’ll hopefully have a big support as we move into our last game v Fiji.The Scots were resilient at times, but were out done by a side who dominated possession and the breakdown throughout the tie.  At half-time things were all-square with the scoreboard remaining 0-0 after a last ditch tackle from James Eddie to stop Canada from scoring.In the second period though, Canada moved in front, through playmaker, Phil Mack, who scored a try, conversion and said: I’m massively proud of the players, they have stood toe-to-toe with the best teams in the world this weekend.It has been a disappointing end losing the last two games.  Even though I made changes to the starting team in the last match they also put in a good shift against the team third in the HSBC Sevens World Series rankings.At the break the scoreboard was level with one try apiece.  Chris Dean crossed the line for Scotland and Samisoni Viriviri for Fiji.  In the second-half, Andrew Turnbull touched down for his 150th Scotland 7s try, in front of a home crowd, but Fiji were to
