Loads of good carries, several from Wassell in particular, get us slowly forward in the 22, before Smith finds Thomson who runs an excellent line to slice through the defence and over.

No release after the tackle from Ireland, and we get another penalty. We now have a lineout on Ireland’s 22.
Christine Belisle gets a rest, and Elliann Clarke comes on.
Another lineout steal from Scotland, then Djougang is penalised for not rolling. We kick the penalty to halfway.
A few kicks each way again. Ireland eventually get lineout ball on halfway.
We gather a loose lineout from Ireland, but then Malcolm drops it forward.

Elis Martin and the driving maul got us the only score of the first half.
We steal the lineout and decide enough’s enough, Helen Nelson kicking off the park to end the half.
We lead by 5 at half time. Plenty of rugby still to play, but as it stands we’re doing what we need to finish third.
Our chance to get some possession, which we haven’t had much of since the try, goes begging as the throw-in isn’t straight.

Clock well in the red now. Gallagher plays the ball illegally at a ruck, and Ireland kick the penalty into the corner.
This time it’s our penalty! Hurrah!
Ireland don’t roll away in the ruck. We get the lineout just inside our 10m.
Ireland work from left to right, but a knock on from McMahon gives us a scrum in our 22 and a chance to get up the pitch.
Another Ireland penalty as we enter the maul from the side. It’s kicked into the corner by the home side.
McDonald gets a bit excited and plays the nine at the ruck. Ireland kick the penalty back into our 22.
Ireland’s maul gets over the line, but as Jones goes to ground it Lisa Thomson dives under the ball and holds her up!

A few kicks from either side again, neither overly keen to go through the phases in some pretty grim Belfast weather.

Good morning on the final day of this year’s Guinness Women’s Six Nations.
What a day it is for Scotland who are in Belfast to play Ireland. If they win they finish third – their highest finish since 2005 and they would also qualify for this year’s WXV 1 competition and next year’s Rugby World Cup in England.
