Scotland stand-off Duncan Weir scores against USA at the 2015 Rugby World Cup in Leeds

This is the USA Eagles’ first visit to Scottish Gas Murrayfield since the two teams first played each other 25 years ago. Current Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend played stand-off that day in November 2000 and scored 33 points – including two tries – in the 53-6 win. In the intervening years the teams have met twice in Rugby World Cup tournaments (in 2003 and 2015) and on summer tours in 2002, 2014, 2018 and 2024. In last year’s match on the Skycanner Americas tour Scotland recorded a 42-7 win courtesy of a Ewan Ashman hat-trick and tries from Duhan van der Merwe, George Horne and Matt Fagerson.

USA Rugby celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and is hosting the Men’s Rugby World Cup in 2031 and the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2033. This summer the Eagles beat Samoa in the last round of the Pacific Nations Cup to finish in 5th place. A great way to kick off The Quilter Nations Series.
