Boys Schools Cup finalists named
Sixteen teams, competing in eight finals, will take over Scottish Gas Murrayfield on Wednesday 4 December, to contest the Boys Schools Cup Finals.
Entry is free to all eight matches, which will be held across the main bowl, Hive Stadium and the back pitches, with the first matches kicking off at 11am, and the last game – the Under-18 Schools Cup Final – kicking off in the main bowl at 5:30pm.
Last year’s U16 and U18 Cup winners, George Watson’s College, were knocked out of the U18 Cup at the quarter final stage this time around, meaning there will be a new winner etched onto the U18 Cup.
This year, the U18 Cup final will be contested by Stewart’s Melville College and Merchiston Castle School.
George Watson’s will return to the U16 Cup final, however, and will be out to protect the Cup from the hands of Stewart’s Melville College in that fixture.
Scottish Rugby’s Head of Rugby Development Gav Scott said Boys Schools Cup finals day is always a highlight on the calendar.
“We’re looking forward once again to hosting eight exciting finals across the schoolboys’ competition.
“If the 2023 finals day was anything to go by, we’re looking at another very competitive day with high quality rugby being played across the Murrayfield campus.”
Four of the matches will be broadcast live on the Scottish Rugby YouTube channel this year – the U16 Cup, U16 Shield, U18 Shield, and U18 Cup.
Highlights packages will be made available for all matches, not just the matches not broadcast live on the day.
Details for fans
Entry is free, with gates opening at 10am. Spectator entry will be through gates B and D, with a range of food and non-alcoholic drink options available for purchase throughout the day.
Personal cameras must fit in your pocket, and detachable lenses are not permitted without media accreditation.
Match reports will be filed on the day and can be found on a rolling updates page in the Fan Zone section of the Scottish Rugby website.
Trophies and medals
This year’s trophies and medals will be provided by Oak & Black and will be made of wood. This makes for a more durable, strong and sustainable award for our winners than in previous years.
Media accreditation
The media accreditation portal for the Boys Schools Cup Finals and also the National Youth Cup Finals, which will take place on Sunday 15 December, is now open.
Journalists, photographers and videographers must be accredited by Monday 2 December if they want to be given media access to the Boys Schools Cup Finals.
