We exit from kick off and Japan hoof it back. Watson decides to run it, and a phase later Jerry Blyth-Lafferty’s inside pass puts Douglas through, and he charges to five metres short from inside our half.

The ball goes loose and Watson has to regather, but then we get back up to the line through Ventisei and then McLean is the man to dot down on the left.

He converts his own try, taking his personal tally to 16 points.

It’s made by Andrew McLean. The stand-off charged through in midfield after McConnell had grabbed a loose ball, and an inside offload to Geordie Gwynn puts the winger on his way. He had a lot to do, but bounced off two tacklers and got over.

A win tonight would secure Scotland a place in the trophy final against USA U20. The US’s 30-17 win against Kenya U20 earlier today got them to the final.

The other two results today saw Samoa U20 win 39-19 against Hong Kong China U20, while Uruguay U20 were 32-16 winners against Netherlands U20.
