FOSROC Academy Players called for Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors matchday squads

As both professional teams prepare for their first external URC warm-up games this weekend, eleven of the Scottish Rugby FOSROC Academy players have been selected in the respective Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors matchday squads.

To help support this opportunity for these young players, the FOSROC Super Series Championship match between Boroughmuir Bears and the FOSROC Future XV due to take place at Meggetland this Friday 29 September (kick-off 7.35pm) has been postponed and will be rescheduled at an agreed suitable date in the future.

The opportunity for these aspiring young players to be involved in the matchday squad selection has arisen due to the number of Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors players currently supporting the National Team RWC selection in France in addition to both pro-teams having to announce a larger squad than the usual matchday 23 players for their pre-season friendly schedules.

This weekend Edinburgh Rugby will welcome fans back to Hive Stadium on Friday evening (kick-off 7.35pm) to face up against Connacht. While the Glasgow Warriors match takes place on Saturday 30 September (kick-off 6pm) as they welcome the return of Zebre Parma to Scotstoun.

Scottish Rugby’s Performance Director Jim Mallinder said: “As a result of their recent performances in the FOSROC Future XV matches and training performances within the respective professional setups, the young players selected have shown that they deserve this opportunity and will benefit greatly from this exciting experience at the highest possible level of rugby available to them in Scotland.

“Since 2019, 35 players who were registered with FOSROC Super Series teams have gone on to play professionally with either Glasgow Warriors or Edinburgh Rugby so the eleven FOSROC Academy players who have been selected will be following in the pathway behind many others.

“Being part of the Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors matchday squads will be an invaluable experience for our up-and-coming players and we wish them the best of luck this weekend.”
