Defeat

A historic day for women’s sport in Scotland, but it’s England who are deserved winners on the Scottish Gas Murrayfield pitch.

Thank you to everyone who has played a part in this seismic moment. We’ll be back next week as we travel to Italy.

See you then.

12:30

Momentous moment - we're making moves to Murrayfield!

Welcome to history!

Scotland Women make the move to Scottish Gas Murrayfield for their first standalone fixture in the main bowl, taking on England in round two of the 2026 Guinness Women’s Six Nations.

Over 30,000 fans take to Murrayfield today, a record crowd for a women’s sporting event in Scotland.

Stay right here for live updates from throughout the day.

Scotland v England smashes Scottish women’s sporting attendance record

The forthcoming Scotland v England fixture in the 2026 Guinness Women’s Six Nations (Saturday 18 April) will attract the largest crowd ever recorded for a standalone women’s sporting event in Scotland.

As part of the ‘Murrayfield 100’ celebrations, Scottish Rugby announced last year that the fixture would be staged in the main bowl of Scottish Gas Murrayfield – the first time Scotland Women will contest a standalone, ticketed international. That decision has now been emphatically validated by unprecedented supporter demand.

Edinburgh Rugby’s home ground, Hive Stadium has been the home of Scotland Women since 2021, during which time support for the team has grown rapidly. In 2024, a sold-out crowd of 7,774 watched Scotland face England, setting a then-record attendance for the national team.

Now, this year’s match has smashed Scotland Women’s previous record, whilst also eclipsing the long-standing national benchmark of 18,555 set by Scotland Women’s football team against Jamaica in 2019.

Key Timings

Turnstiles open at 11.30am, but if you want to start your day earlier, you can watch the Scotland U21 v England U21 game at Hive Stadium (next door to Scottish Gas Murrayfield) kicking off at 11am. Everyone with a ticket to the main Scotland v England match is eligible to secure free ticket(s) for this U21 game (although because of limited capacity are available on a first-come, first-served basis) and will receive details of how to access Hive Stadium for 11am.

You can give the Scotland players a rousing welcome to Scottish Gas Murrayfield when the team coach arrives at 11.55am outside the West Stand.

You won’t want to miss the pre-match performance in the main bowl from Scottish music sensation Cammy Barnes, from 1pm, and of course you’ll want to be in your seat in time for the National Anthems at 1.20pm.
