Accessing the Stadium
Murrayfield is located roughly two miles west of Edinburgh city centre. Due to significant road closures and a total lack of public parking, supporters are advised to use public transport or walk.
The Rugby Walk: A popular 45 minute route from the city centre via Haymarket and Roseburn.
The Tram: This is the most direct link, with a dedicated Murrayfield stop. Trams run every few minutes from the Airport and the City Centre. Ensure you tap on or buy a ticket at the platform before boarding.
Lothian Buses: Direct services include the X12 from Ingliston Park & Ride and the Service 25 from Hermiston Park & Ride. From the city centre, look for the 12, 26, 31, or 100 (Airlink) to Corstorphine Road, or the 22 and 30 to Gorgie Road.
Essential Stadium Policies
To ensure a smooth entry, please adhere to the following official Scottish Rugby policies:
The Bag Policy: Supporters are strongly urged not to bring bags. If necessary, bags must be no larger than A4 size (21cm x 30cm). There are no bag drop facilities at the stadium. Exceptions are made for medical or childcare requirements, which will be searched and tagged at dedicated lanes.
Cashless Venue: Scottish Gas Murrayfield is a fully cashless stadium. All food, drink, and merchandise units accept contactless or card payments only.
Ticketing: All tickets are delivered via the Scottish Rugby Ticketing App. Ensure your phone is fully charged and you have downloaded the latest version of the app before arrival.
Arrival and Pre-Match Events
The stadium environment at Scottish Gas Murrayfield offers a vibrant match-day atmosphere well before the 80 minutes of rugby begin — so arrive early and make a day of it!
Stadium Opening:
Turnstiles for all areas of the stadium open 3 hours prior to kick-off, giving fans plenty of time to explore food, drink and entertainment options around the ground.
West Fan Village:
Situated behind the West Stand, the West Fan Village is open from this time and features over 45 food and drink units — from traditional Scottish favourites to global street food options.
Guinness Corner:
Behind the North Stand, Guinness Corner is a lively spot to grab a pint, listen to music and soak up the pre-match buzz with fellow supporters.
Kit Store Bar:
The Kit Store is on the Level 1 concourse next to the Tennent’s Up & Under bar and offers another great pre-kick-off hangout for fans looking to enjoy a drink and conversation before heading to their seats.
Team Arrival:
About 90 minutes before kick-off, many fans gather near the West Stand to welcome the Scotland team bus — a popular early-day ritual.
The Anthem:
Be in your seat at least 20 minutes before kick-off for the iconic singing of Flower of Scotland, with the second verse traditionally unaccompanied by music and sung in full voice by the crowd.
Matchday Etiquette
Respect the Kicker: A hallmark of Scottish rugby culture is maintaining total silence during goal kicks, regardless of which team is kicking.
The Blue Crew: If you require assistance, “Blue Crew” volunteers are stationed throughout the stadium grounds to provide directions and info.
The Post-Match Exit: Immediately following the whistle, transport queues (particularly for the Tram) are at their peak. It is often more efficient to remain in the Fan Village for 30–45 minutes to enjoy the post-match atmosphere while the initial crowds disperse.
