Ben White called up to the British & Irish Lions

30 Jun 2025

Ben White will become the eighth Scottish player on tour with the British & Irish Lions after being called up following the injury to Tomos Williams

The scrum-half has flown to Australia from New Zealand where he was based with the Scotland team as they prepare to face the Maori All Blacks.

White joins Scott Cummings, Huw Jones, Blair Kinghorn, Finn Russell, Pierre Schoeman, Sione Tuipulotu and Duhan van der Merwe on tour in Australia.

Gus Warr has joined up with the Scotland team in Whangarei in the north of the New Zealand ahead of the Maori All Blacks game this Saturday.

The Sale Sharks scrum-half made his Scotland debut last year on the tour of the Americas where he played in the victory over Canada.

Warr is the second change to the original squad after Rory Hutchinson replaced Matt Currie who was ruled out through injury.

On his call-up to the Lions Ben White said: “It’s pretty crazy and it’s not sunk in yet to be honest. He (Andy Farrell) called me this morning and I’ve not stopped shaking since. It’s an incredible honour.

“I called my Mum and Dad straight away. They were incredibly proud and it was an amazing phone call to have.

“It’s something you dream of but not something you think you’ll do. Along your rugby journey there are a lot of people who help you to be where you, especially your family so I’m incredibly grateful (for the opportunity).

“There are a fair few Scottish boys in the squad so it’ll be good to see them again and meet the guys I don’t know too well. I’m really excited to get to know everyone and get going.”
