Scottish Rugby are pleased to confirm the appointment of former Scotland Women international Caity Mattinson as Pathways Skills Coach.
In the role, which Scottish Rugby is thankful for it to be supported by funding from sportscotland, Mattinson will support the coaching and delivery of the women’s National Talent Pathway (NTP), National Academy programme and wider pathway programme.
Bringing a vast amount of experience from her own playing career, Mattinson will play a key role in supporting the individual development of young players across the pathway.
Mattinson represented Scotland 37 times before calling time on her playing career for both club and country in September 2025.
The former scrum-half made her debut for Scotland against Colombia during the Rugby World Cup 2021 and went on to represent Scotland at the highest level, featuring at two Women’s Rugby World Cups, two WXV2 tournaments, three Six Nations campaigns, whilst also earning caps at 7s, having represented Scotland at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Having been involved in coaching during her playing career, it is something Mattinson continued following her retirement, serving as Schools Rugby manager at Banbury RFC and Academy Coach at Coventry Rugby.
She also worked with Scotland Women’s U21s during the 2026 Six Nations series and their recent trip to Italy.
In her new role with Scottish Rugby, she will lead the development and delivery of a specialist skills programme across the pathway, whilst supporting with the talent identification and player profiling process.
The skills programme will include Mattinson providing specialist support in kicking, half-back play and coordinating specialist front row skills and throwing provision across the pathway.
Upon being appointed in her new role, Caity Mattinson, said: “I’m delighted to be coming back to Scotland.
“I coached across a big range of environments throughout my playing career and since retiring have thrown myself into every opportunity that’s come my way.
“One of those opportunities was to be involved with Scotland U21s across the Six Nations period. I loved the chance to help shape the next generation and finished the campaign desperate for more time coaching that group.
“Being offered a full-time role in the pathway is an incredibly exciting next step in my coaching journey, and one that I hope allows me to not only positively impact the players coming through but also give me the chance to continue learning and pushing my career forward. I can’t wait to get started.”
Head of Women’s Performance and Pathways, Andy Rhys Jones, added: “I am delighted that Caity Mattinson has returned to Scottish Rugby as Pathways Skills Coach.
“Having represented Scotland during her playing career and continued to develop her coaching experience since retiring, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will be invaluable in supporting the next generation of players across our National Talent Pathway, National Academy Programme and wider pathway programme.
“Caity is a well-respected and talented coach, who we know will contribute massively to the development of our players across the pathway.
“We are committed to providing our young players with the best possible environment to progress their skills and fulfil their potential. The support secured through sportscotland funding is hugely appreciated and will enable us to provide vital coaching support as players progress through our pathway system.”
