New York 7s Preview

12 Mar 2026

The Great Britain 7s Men’s and women’s squads are set to descend upon the Big Apple for the final round of the HSBC SVNS World Series.

Both squads remain unchanged from last weekend’s fixtures in Vancouver, making it a second appearance for Glasgow Warriors Pro Academy player, Ben Salmon. After a tough weekend for both squads the experience in the Women’s side will no doubt keep the squad firing, with Olympians Heather Cowell, Abigail Brown and Grace Crompton remaining in the squad.

New York marks the last round of the SVNS World Series before all eyes are on Hong Kong for the start of the World Championships, where relegation and promotion between SVNS and SVNS 2 will be the talking point.

Great Britain 7s Director of Rugby, Ciaran Beattie, said: “The women are consistently taking steps forward but we’re looking to turn individual performances into something that can be on show for the whole 14 minutes. If we’re able to do that, I have complete faith we’ll be able to get across that line. We just need to keep taking those steps forward.

“From the men’s side, in honesty it’s just been a difficult weekend riddled with illness and injury. We came into Vancouver with some real high hopes of positive performances, whilst we saw it in spells, I just don’t think it was consistent enough. We’re all staying positive though and looking forward to playing in a new location of New York.”
