Preview: Two U18 regional teams set for Merchiston Castle School festival
11 Oct 2024Two regional U18 academy teams will again participate in the Merchiston Castle School Rugby Festival this weekend.
The festival sees two Scottish regional sides called Edinburgh Reivers U18 and Glasgow Caledonia Reds U18, along with Merchiston and Stewart’s Melville schools and club side Boroughmuir, take part in a short-format competition that also includes nine English schools.
Edinburgh Reivers have been put in a group with Dulwich, Seaford and Dame Allan’s, while Glasgow Caledonia Reds are paired with Sherborne, Barnard Castle and Boroughmuir RFC.
Saturday matches will be 12-minute halves, with the top two from each of the four groups of four teams advancing to a trophy competition on Sunday, while the bottom two sides compete for the bowl. The Sunday fixtures will be 10-minute halves.
The two regional teams are made up of players who were not already playing in the competition for their school or club.
