Open Trials Just Weeks Away
Open trials for places in the senior performance programme for the new season will take place at Murrayfield on Saturday 18 September 2010. Trialists – for a Scotland Women squad of 35 – must be aged 18 by 1 January 2010. Registration will be at 10am at Murrayfield; the day will include skills sessions, training, fitness and a match, and should conclude by 4pm. A further trial will take place on 9 October for those eligible for the under-20 squad (trialists must be under-20 by 1 January 2010 – born in 1991, 1992 or 1993 to be eligible).For further information on both trials, please read on: Photo: Scotland Women against Sweden at Rugby World Cup 2010 In both cases, players must be eligible to play for Scotland. All prospective players must bring documentary evidence of this to the trial day on 18 September, including the completed eligibility declaration form, which can be found by clicking here and their original full birth certificate (photocopies are not acceptable) and the full original birth certificates of any parents or grandparents through whom they are claiming eligibility. Players also need to bring; rugby kit (trainers and boots); waterproofs; medical tape; strapping (lineout tape); medical requirements; lunch; and water. More information on the trials and the eligibility requirements can be obtained from [email protected] The Selection Process Following the open trials on 18 September 2010, a group of players will be selected to attend the Scotland Series matches on 26 September / 9 October (by invitation only). The list of players to attend the second round trials will be posted on the SWRU web site by 21 September 2010. The Scottish Women’s Performance Programme The 2010/11 season will see some changes in the performance programme, with an extended Scotland Women squad comprising 35 players. The Scotland Women’s team will compete in the Six Nations, with an Autumn international fixture as preparation. Players in the Scotland Women’s squad will take part in regular fitness testing, skills clinics (including specialist coaching sessions) and squad weekends. Players who are unsuccessful in trialling for the Scotland Women’s squad, will have the opportunity to take part in a Senior Regional Programme from January to March 2011. The programme will consist of three training days and two matches, where players are able to develop both individual and group skills in a competitive environment (trials will take place in January 2011). In addition to the senior performance programme, a Scotland Women under-20 squad will replace the SWR Academy. The Scotland Women’s under-20 squad will focus on preparing players to play competitive senior international rugby, and will develop core skills and fitness alongside the Scotland Women’s squad.
