Paterson: Balance Is The Key To Scots’ Success
Scotland captain Chris Paterson today heaped praise on his 100kg centre Rob Dewey and warned that balance would be the key to victory in Saturday’s RBS 6 Nations Championship match against Wales at Murrayfield. Paterson, who will be looking to add to his four international tries against the Welsh, said: Everybody goes on about Rob’s size and there’s no doubt he is pretty formidable and it takes some defending to stop him. But the best thing about Rob is his attitude. Nothing fazes him. Scotland captain Chris Paterson today heaped praise on his 100kg centre Rob Dewey and warned that balance would be the key to victory in Saturday’s RBS 6 Nations Championship match against Wales at Murrayfield Paterson, who will be looking to add to his four international tries against the Welsh – that haul includes two spectacular long-range counter-attack scores at Murrayfield – said: “Everybody goes on about Rob’s size and there’s no doubt he is pretty formidable and it takes some defending to stop him. But the best thing about Rob is his attitude. Nothing fazes him.” Dewey has already scored two tries in his two cap appearances to date – including an impressive later counter in the Calcutta Cup match last week. He commented: “I’ve got more to offer than just my size but if there’s a gap I’d like to think I’ve got the pace and power to go through it. This will be a real test for me but the crowd will give everyone in the Scotland team a big lift.” Paterson reflected that the players’ confidence remained buoyant in spite of the result at Twickenham. “The confidence is high because we know what we have to fix to perform well. Mistakes and poor decision-making are what led to the defeat against England but we’ve had a good week in training and we’re back at Murrayfield which has been a proud home for us over the last couple of years,” he said. Paterson acknowledged that both teams are equipped to play a running game but felt that the side that best pulled together all component parts would be successful. “What we need is the correct balance between our attacking game, our wide game and our kicking game. We also need our driving maul and setpiece to be right. Whoever has the best balance will come out on top.”
