Edinburgh Rugby and Scotland internationalists Ross Ford and David Denton officially welcomed freshnlo Pedal for Scotland to Murrayfield today by getting on their bikes at the home of Scottish rugby. Murrayfield will play host to the event finish line for the second year running and riders will able to enjoy a victory lap of the stadium to celebrate their achievement. Edinburgh Rugby hooker Ross Ford said: Cycling is a big talking point just now, thanks to Team GB’s Olympic successes and the first ever British winner of the Tour de France, and it’s great for us to be able to show our support for Scotland’s biggest bike ride. Finishing in Murrayfield will be a great experience for the participants and hopefully they will be on slightly larger bikes than the ones we are riding today! Organiser of the event, Ian Aitken, chief executive of Cycling Scotland, commented: We are thrilled to be able to bring the freshnlo Pedal for Scotland finish line to Murrayfield for the second year running as we know last year’s riders really enjoyed being able to cross the line in such an iconic location. Weve had record entry levels this year but registration is still open so I’d encourage any budding or experienced cyclists out there to sign up and enjoy Scotland’s largest mass participation bike ride. freshnlo Pedal for Scotland is taking place on Sunday 9th September, setting off from Glasgow Green and finishing in style at Murrayfield Stadium._ From newcomers who just want to get fit and enjoy a fresh challenge to serious road cyclists, participants have the choice of two different routes: _The classic freshnlo Pedal for Scotland Challenge Ride is a 47 mile ride between Glasgow and Edinburgh _The freshnlo Pedal for Scotland Sportive Ride was first introduced with great success in 2010 and following calls for additional challenges, the route has been made considerably harder for 2012. The 110 mile timed ride now features 2400m of ascent, taking a longer route between Glasgow and Edinburgh for a serious challenge.Supported by charity partner Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres for the fourth year, participants can also raise money for a good cause.There is still time to register for the event – log on to www.pedalforscotland.org to find out more and enter a team.
