Scotland 7S Lace Up For Glasgow 2014

Scotland 7s internationalists Ross Samson and David Denton, who earlier this month helped Scotland to their USA 7s Bowl victory in Las Vegas, today (Tuesday 22 February 2011) pulled on their trainers and backed the Glasgow 2014 “Sport Your Trainers” campaign. On March 14, Commonwealth Day, everyone from business leaders, schoolchildren to politicians and doctors will be encouraged to ditch their formal footwear and wear their trainers for the day in support of the Commonwealth Games. On March 14, Commonwealth Day, everyone from business leaders, schoolchildren to politicians and doctors will be encouraged to ditch their formal footwear and wear their trainers for the day in support of the Commonwealth Games. Denton said: “Representing your country is one of the greatest achievements for any sportsperson and to have the chance to compete in the Commonwealth Games on home turf, alongside 16 other sporting disciplines, is a once in a life time opportunity. “The finale of the eight-leg HSBC Sevens World Series comes to Murrayfield in the last weekend in May (Saturday/Sunday 28/29 May) and I’m sure that Glasgow 2014 will be a landmark occasion for all of Scotland. “Sport Your Trainers day is a great way to encourage everyone across Scotland to get behind the country’s Games and think about how they can live a healthier and more active lifestyle in the lead up to 2014 and beyond.” Tickets for this fast and furious festival of rugby are on sale now and are priced from£5 for under-18s,£10 for students and senior citizens and£20 for adults. All tickets are ANY DAY tickets – valid for one day of your choice, either Saturday 28 May or Sunday 29 May. Glasgow 2014Rugby sevens is one of seventeen sports to be played over the 11 days of competition. Ten of these are core sports (always competed for) and seven have been selected by the host city from a choice of sixteen, making for an interesting and varied programme. Two days, sixteen nations, 44 matches – one great weekend! For a fifth season the IRB Sevens World Series comes to Murrayfield with the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s being the eighth and final leg of a super season of international sevens.
