Scotland centre Duncan Taylor suffers injury set back
6 Sep 2018
Scotland and Sarcens centre Duncan Taylor is ‘set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines’ with a knee injury his club has confirmed.
The 29-year-old suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in the Premiership Rugby Shield and is set to see a specialist to assess the full extent of the damage.
Born in Northampton, Taylor made his Scotland debut in the opening match of the 2013 quadrangular tournament against Samoa and made his first start at BT Murrayfield in the second Autumn Test of 2013 against South Africa, which he follwed up against Australia.
A sequence of ill-timed injuries meant it was two years until he returned to the dark blue of Scotland, when he finally had the chance to showcase the talent that has instilled him as favourite at Premiership-winning Saracens.
The versatile ‘Super Dunc’ started the 2016 RBS 6 Nations campaign as a wing replacement against England but capitalised on a injury in midfield to start the remaining four games at centre, registering sensational long-range scores against Wales and Italy and finishing the campaign as one of the national team’s top performers.
Despite lifting Premiership and European Champions Cup trophies with his club, untimely injuries have kept Taylor out of contention for Scotland since the 2017 sumer tour defeat to Fiji, with the outcome of his coming appointment likely to determine if that spell will be extended.
