Scotland eye seventh place in Under-20 Championship
The Scotland side to play Ireland in the seventh place play-off in the World Rugby Under-20 Championship at Stadio Luigi Zaffanella, Viadana, has been named. The starting XV to play Scotland’s final game of the tournament contains four changes to the side, which was narrowly defeated, 31-21, by Australia in the fifth place semi-final.Head Coach, Sean Lineen, said: “It’s been a long tournament but we’re extremely proud of the players’ efforts across the four games we’ve played.”However, we need to keep improving, and we need to lift our performance again for this final match against Ireland.”We’ve already played them in this competition and we expect another tight game.”Against Australia, a lack of concentration cost us dearly so that’s something we’ve addressed on the run up to this game. To win games you need to play for the full 80 minutes and that’s something that we need to do, against Ireland.” Murray McCallum returns to the matchday squad and slots in at loosehead prop, with Zander Fagerson occupying the tighthead berth. Sam James is promoted from the bench to replace Ross Graham at hooker.Scott Cummings, who has started in the number four shirt for every game in this tournament, is partnered in the second-row by Ally Miller. The back-row trio will be headed up by captain Jamie Ritchie, with the returning Neil Irvine-Hess packing down on the blindside flank and Magnus Bradbury retaining his spot at number eight. The back-line remains unchanged from the previous two ties. Richard Galloway, who has scored two tries in as many games, starts on the left wing with Robbie Nairn on the other and Blair Kinghorn completing the back-three at full-back.Alec Coombes will make his third start at outside centre for Scotland under-20, and will continue in his partnership with Patrick Kelly. The half-back duo of Ben Vellacott and Rory Hutchinson complete the starting side at scrum-half and stand-off respectively.Scotland team to play Ireland in the World Rugby Under-20 Championship seventh place play-off, Stadio Luigi Zaffanella, Viadana (kick-off 12 noon BST).15 Blair Kinghorn (Edinburgh Rugby) 14 Robbie Nairn (Harlequins)13 Alec Coombes (London Scottish)12 Patrick Kelly (Le Parc)11 Richard Galloway (University of Birmingham) 10 Rory Hutchinson (Northampton Saints)9 Ben Vellacott (Gloucester/Hartpury College) 1 Murray McCallum (Aberdeen Grammar Rugby)2 Sam James (Bedford Blues)3 Zander Fagerson (Glasgow Warriors)4 Scott Cummings (Glasgow Warriors/Glasgow Hawks)5 Ally Miller (Edinburgh Rugby/Watsonians)6 Neil Irvine-Hess (Melrose)7 Jamie Ritchie CAPTAIN (Edinburgh Rugby)8 Magnus Bradbury (Edinburgh Rugby) Replacements 16 Ross Graham (Hawick)17 Dan Elkington (Watsonians)18 Jack Owlett (Exeter University)19 Ruaridh Knott (Melrose)20 Lewis Wynne (Stirling County)21 George Horne (Glasgow Hawks)22 Tom Galbraith (Melrose)23 Archie Russell (Stirling County)
