Scotland squad player update
The Scotland medical team provided a player update following yesterday’s RBS 6 Nations loss to Wales at BT Murrayfield Stadium.Jon Welsh sustained a fracture to his hand and will require surgery later in the week. He is expected to be unavailable for the remainder of the RBS 6 Nations championship.Gordon Reid was removed from the field of play having sustained a blow to the head and, at the same time, straining his knee.Reid is ‘symptom free’ from his head knock however, given the mechanism of his injury, it is being treated as a concussion, requiring him to undergo the mandatory graduated return to play protocol.His knee is being scanned at Spire Murrayfield Hospital today (Monday). The outcome will determine the length of rehabilitation, in addition to the recovery from his head knock.Richie Gray sustained an injury to his upper arm and will also be scanned at Spire Murrayfield Hospital today (Monday), a further update will follow later in the week.Sam Hidalgo-Clyne finished the game, however developed mild symptoms of a possible delayed concussion and will be treated as such.A number of other players have required treatment today and will be monitored by both the Scotland, and respective club medical teams.
