After the game, head coach Lee Adamson said: We were disappointed not to get the win. We did well in some phases of the game and not so well in other phases. We have a lot to work on in preparation for the France game next weekend. We need to build on the things we did right, and put right the things we did wrong. It’s was an equal contest in the opening stages of the game with both sides showing some intelligent rugby coupled with some great handling skills and plenty exciting line-breaks. The kicking performance of both sides in the first half was also a treat for the vociferous crowd, as the score stayed level at 3-3 until the half hour mark with penalties from Ireland stand-off Jo O’Sullivan and Scotland fullback Lynsey Harley. It was after 30 minutes when the first try of the afternoon came. With Scotland prop Beth Dickens in the sin bin, Irish captain Sarah-Jane Belton burst down the right flank, handing off two defenders, to touch down. O’Sullivan failed to convert. Seven minutes later, Harley clawed things back for the Scots to go in at half-time 6-8 down. Half-time score: Scotland Women 6, Ireland Women 8 With Irish hooker Jess Limbert being shown the yellow card just before the break, the Scots looked to be suffering from fatigue and dropped off the intense Irish pace. Irish winger Jeanette Feighery then received the ball out on the right and, without an overlap, put her foot down and beat Harley around the outside to score in the corner. With the clock counting down, both Scotland and Ireland rung the changes but it was the Irish who had the last word as Lynne Cantwell bundled over the line as the covering tackles from two Scottish defenders just came too late.
