Scottish Deaf Prepare To Face World Champions

The Scottish Deaf rugby team – fresh from capturing the Kolkata Cup after winning the try count in their drawn game against their English counterparts – are preparing to face the Welsh Deaf team this weekend. The Welsh side are the reigning Deaf International Rugby World Cup holders and Scots’ coach Kevin Wyness expects a tough contest.The Scottish Deaf rugby team – fresh from capturing the Kolkata Cup after winning the try count in their drawn game against their English counterparts – are preparing to face the Welsh Deaf team this weekend. The Welsh side are the reigning Deaf International Rugby World Cup holders and Scots’ coach Kevin Wyness expects a tough contest. He said: “This is a great opportunity for the Scottish Deaf team to build on our last two matches against Japan and England. We are starting to get more experienced players interested in representing us and a win against the world champions would be a terrific achievement.” The match will be played at GHA’s ground at Braidholm in Glasgow on Saturday (10 February) with a 12 noon kick-off. Admission is £5 for adults, whereas children gain free entry. The Scottish Deaf team is: Grant Rutherford (Boroughmuir); David Sanderson (Perthshire), Donald Snodgrass (Haddington), Mike Tweedie (Edinburgh Accies), Graham McCue (Kilmarnock); Stephen Farmer (Clydesdale), Hamish Neish (Hawick YM); Andy Flavell (Perthshire) captain, Adam McCormack (Whitecraigs), Kevin Wyness (Ellon), Alan Stern (GHA), John Muirhead (Kilmarnock), David Brown (Peebles), Sandy Cuthbertson (Strathendrick), Andy Crozier (Cartha Queen’s Park). Subs: Willie Cook (Leith Accies), Stuart Hay (Bedford), Neil Bell (Annan), Neil Houston (Cowal), Gavin Reid (West of Scotland), Roddy Matheson (Whitecraigs), Andy Tedd (Ardrossan Accies).
