Scottish Rugby has announced a partnership extension with one of its longest-standing partners SmilePlus Dental Care, part of Clyde Munro Dental Group, as the official dentist of Scottish Rugby and Edinburgh Rugby.

Fiona Davidson, the Practice Principal, has been the Official Dentist of Scottish Rugby since 2007. Alongside her team, she provides general and emergency dental care, custom-made mouthguards, and emergency match-day medical support.

The practice supports by carrying out digital scans for custom-made mouthguards for player training and matchday demands, as well as supplying custom-made mouthguards for pathway players.

Reflecting on the partnership, Fiona Davidson said: “I’m delighted to be part of the team at SmilePlus continuing to support Scottish Rugby in maintaining the oral health of their players and being part of the match day medical team.

“Scottish Rugby in collaboration with SmilePlus lead the way in terms of Sports Dentistry not only in the UK but also worldwide, and I am proud to further this relationship with my colleagues.

“It is a pleasure to work with young athletes to educate them regarding the importance of optimum oral health and the impact on their performance on the pitch.”

Dr David Pugh, Scottish Rugby Chief Medical Officer, said: “The experience SmilePlus has built up with Scottish Rugby over more than 15 years has enabled us to provide essential oral and dental advice to our professional and international players.

“Fiona and her team have been a great support to all of the medical teams at Scottish Rugby. Fiona’s education on the dental provision has been invaluable and also the match-day emergency support and contributions to general medical care her team provide. I am pleased that we can continue to grow the relationship with the SmilePlus team in years to come.”
