The Scottish Rugby Board is responsible for the management of the game within Scotland, and under Scottish Rugby’s governance structure, comprises four representatives elected from the Scottish Rugby Council (the representative body of the member clubs and other stakeholders), up to four Executive members of staff and the outside expertise contributed by four non-executive directors. In the past few years the Board has played a significant part in Scottish Rugby’s financial turnaround by implementing procedures that are in line with the best business and financial practices. The Board has also been instrumental in the development and implementation of Scottish Rugby’s Strategic Plan (which sets out ambitious targets for growth in player numbers, international performance, pro-team performance and commercial activity to be reached by 2012). Non-executive members of the Scottish Rugby Board play an important part in making sure that Strategic Plan is carried out and ensuring that the game continues to grow and develop. There are a number of demands placed upon non-executives, as a result of which Scottish Rugby is looking for candidates who have a proven record of commercial and strategic success.
