CLUB INSURANCE BOOST Scottish Rugby today confirmed that for season 2007/08 the SRU will pay the whole of the compulsory club accident insurance premium on behalf of its member clubs. The insurance scheme, which provides a payout in the case of serious injuries to players, previously cost clubs more than £400 per adult team insured and £30 for each mini / midi team. The saving for a club running four senior XVs and a youth section will be almost £2,000. In a further boost to participants the level of cover provided in the case of the most serious injuries has been increased from £300,000 to £400,000. SRU Secretary Graham Ireland said: “Whilst serious injuries in rugby are thankfully rare, Scottish Rugby believes it is important for all rugby players to have appropriate insurance cover. As recently as two seasons ago most of our clubs only had insurance cover up to £150,000. “We are delighted that in addition to being able to pay the whole of the insurance premium we have also been able to agree a further significant increase in the level of cover.”
