Street Rugby referred to Murrayfield

Youngsters from seven Fife and Dundee schools descended on Murrayfield tonight for a small-sided tournament, prior to the RaboDirect PRO12 game between Edinburgh and Ulster.  The young-players are all part of Scottish Rugby’s Street Rugby Referral programme, funded by Cashback for Communities, a scheme set up to help young people with challenging behaviours to integrate with others in a positive and fun environment. The programme focusses on working on the ability to progress as a team and respecting each other to achieve as a group.Senior community learning and development worker for Dundee Council, Gwen Bowles, said:”The Street Rugby Referral programme gives these kids the chance to be part of a team, helping to develop their social interaction and life skills.”It is evident that this initiative gives kids the chance to grow in confidence and boost their personal self-esteem.”To play at Murrayfield is a huge achievement and reward for all their hard work at the end of the initiative, and something not many of them will have the chance to do again.”
