Alan Lynn joins Scottish Rugby as High-Performance Coach Development Lead
28 Aug 2026Alan Lynn has been announced as the new High-Performance Coach Development Lead at Scottish Rugby.
Alan Lynn has been announced as the new High-Performance Coach Development Lead at Scottish Rugby.
Lynn joins Scottish Rugby after several years as Head of Performance Coach Development at Aquatics GB, with prior leadership experience and success as Scottish Swimming’s National Coach.
His recent role with Aquatics GB covered all aquatic sports (swimming, para-swimming, diving, and artistic) at pathway and senior level, similarly to what will come as part of his new responsibility.
Lynn will provide strategic direction within the high-performance department to advance coach education and development, including the establishment of bespoke development plans for coaches in the men’s and women’s game.
Upon his arrival, Lynn said: “I wanted the challenge of working within a professional team sport. Coaches shape the game and they shape people. I’m excited to join Scottish Rugby to build a world class coaching system – creating environments where coaches and players can thrive and Scotland can succeed on the world stage.
“For me, effective coach development starts with being where coaching happens – spending time alongside coaches, building relationships, listening and understanding, and working together to identify the priorities that will make the biggest difference.
“I’m looking forward to getting out across the system, learning, challenging and supporting coaches to flourish.”
Head of Performance Pathways, Al Kellock, said: “It’s brilliant to welcome Alan into our team here at Scottish Rugby. We have a very talented group of coaches who have enormous influence on our players. The coach’s role is far greater than the technical and tactical areas of rugby, they help the players create world class behaviours, deal with adversity, and much more. We therefore needed to ensure our coaches are well supported and a focus is on their own development. We created this role as part of that desire.
“It’s great that we’ve managed to get someone like Alan. With his experienced resume and background within development, he brings with him an incredible depth of knowledge and I am in no doubt he will add significantly to our programmes.”
