Five U18 squads and six U16 squads will come together for an exciting day of representative rugby at Scottish Rugby’s first Girls’ U16 and U18 Inter-District festival this Sunday 20 September.

The festival follows consultation and discussions with clubs last season, which helped shape the revised 2026/27 calendar. That collaboration has created dedicated opportunities for player development alongside club competitions, with Inter-District fixtures now taking place on weekends without league or cup action.

As outlined in the aligned Schools, Youth and Pathway Calendar, the programme runs throughout the season, giving players and clubs a clearer view of the season ahead.

Neil Graham, Head of Regional Pathways & Game Development said “Clubs played an important part in shaping the revised Girls’ season calendar, and we are grateful to everyone who contributed to those discussions. The Inter-District programme is a vital part of our talent pathway and everyone is looking forward to seeing how the newly formed squads go this weekend.”

The Inter-District programme gives players identified through club rugby opportunities to play alongside others from their district in representative fixtures. It also provides a talent identification opportunity for Scottish Rugby’s National Talent Pathway.

Sunday’s festival marks the first opportunity for players to demonstrate their potential, with further chances to impress as the season progresses.

Robbie Lavery, Regional Pathways and Game Development Lead Manager said: “This programme gives players identified through club rugby the opportunity to represent their district and test themselves alongside new team-mates.

“It is also an important part of identifying talent for our National Talent Pathway, with performances throughout the season helping shape the Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby squads for the Pro-Alignment fixtures after Christmas. We are looking forward to seeing the players express themselves and enjoy the challenge.”
