Combined Academies to face Ulster Under-23s
Following the announcement last month of the Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby Senior Academy players for the forthcoming season, a Combined Academies team will face Ulster Under-23s.
The match will take place on Friday 13 September at 4pm at Scotstoun Stadium with Scotland Under-20s head coach Kenny Murray coaching the academy team along with his Under-20s management team.
As part of the new Performance Player Pathway plan to give the country’s best young players as much game time as possible, in the absence of Super Series, Glasgow and Edinburgh’s academy players will come together to face Ulster.
Edinburgh recently named 23 under-23 players as part of their new academy group of players with Glasgow naming 26. The expanded set-up allows for the inclusion of later developing players, up to the age of 23, and will further support the ongoing development of homegrown players.
Their playing programme will include expanded Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors ‘A’ team fixtures which will be announced in due course.
Tickets for the match are available for free.
Kenny Murray, Head of Player Transition and Scotland Under-20s head coach said: “It is vitally important that our best young players are playing competitive games against tough opposition.
“The game against Ulster will be a real test for our academy players and the game time will be beneficial for their development as they prepare for their season ahead.
“Having a combined team of both academies will allow for a really competitive training week and will also help with the cohesion of our under-20s players who are starting their preparation for next year’s Six Nations Championship.”
