Scotland v England smashes Scottish women’s sporting attendance record

The forthcoming Scotland v England fixture in the 2026 Guinness Women’s Six Nations (Saturday 18 April) will attract the largest crowd ever recorded for a standalone women’s sporting event in Scotland.

As part of the ‘Murrayfield 100’ celebrations, Scottish Rugby announced last year that the fixture would be staged in the main bowl of Scottish Gas Murrayfield – the first time Scotland Women will contest a standalone, ticketed international. That decision has now been emphatically validated by unprecedented supporter demand.

Edinburgh Rugby’s home ground, Hive Stadium has been the home of Scotland Women since 2021, during which time support for the team has grown rapidly. In 2024, a sold-out crowd of 7,774 watched Scotland face England, setting a then-record attendance for the national team.

Now, this year’s match has smashed Scotland Women’s previous record, whilst also eclipsing the long-standing national benchmark of 18,555 set by Scotland Women’s football team against Jamaica in 2019.

Key Timings

Turnstiles open at 11.30am, but if you want to start your day earlier, you can watch the Scotland U21 v England U21 game at Hive Stadium (next door to Scottish Gas Murrayfield) kicking off at 11am. Everyone with a ticket to the main Scotland v England match is eligible to secure free ticket(s) for this U21 game (although because of limited capacity are available on a first-come, first-served basis) and will receive details of how to access Hive Stadium for 11am.

You can give the Scotland players a rousing welcome to Scottish Gas Murrayfield when the team coach arrives at 11.55am outside the West Stand.

You won’t want to miss the pre-match performance in the main bowl from Scottish music sensation Cammy Barnes, from 1pm, and of course you’ll want to be in your seat in time for the National Anthems at 1.20pm.

Matchday entertainment and fan experiences

  • Team arrival

Hosted by Scottish DJ Calum Gallacher, cheer on Scotland Women as they arrive via team coach at Scottish Gas Murrayfield at 11.55am in the West Stand area. As an added bonus, fans who arrive early wearing their Scotland colours will have the chance to win a variety of great prizes – so show your support from the very start and help build the energy for the big match ahead.

  • The Great Lochie Scavenger Hunt

Are you ready to turn matchday into an adventure? While you wait for kick-off at Scottish Gas Murrayfield, join us for The Great Lochie Scavenger Hunt. Our mascot, Lochie, is hiding in plain sight, and we need you to help us track them down.

Lochie has enlisted a team of eight supporters to hide clues across the stadium. Each team member is stationed at a key landmark, holding a special Lochie Scavenger Hunt board. Every board features one vital letter. Your mission is to find all eight of Lochie’s supporters, collect the letters, and unscramble the mystery word.

Keep a close eye on our website and social media channels as we get closer to matchday for all the latest updates on this stadium-wide adventure.

  • Turn Up & Play

Before the big game Scottish Rugby is hosting one of its Turn Up & Play events right here on the back pitches at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.

This is a free, drop in rugby taster sessions for kids to have fun and get involved. Turn Up & Play is non-contact, fun, friendly and requires no prior rugby experience to get involved.

You can see more including kids’ reactions to taking part here.

  • Cammy Barnes and music acts

You won’t want to miss the pre-match performance in the main bowl from Scottish music sensation Cammy Barnes (from 1pm) and of course you’ll want to be in your seat in time for the National Anthems at 1.20pm.

The Fife-born singer-songwriter will set the tone ahead of the landmark clash between Scotland Women and England Red Roses, bringing his acclaimed blend of contemporary country and Scottish influence to what is set to be a record-breaking occasion for women’s sport in Scotland, following a run of major live successes including a sold-out show at Glasgow Barrowlands.

You can listen to Cammy Barnes’ latest music here.

Throughout the day, music acts will be performing including Scottish singer song writer, Maria McAveety in the East Stand from 11.30pm to 1.15pm.
