Drumming up support for cancer charity

An Edinburgh teenager has raised more than £12,000 for Cancer Research UK by keeping Scotland supporters entertained en route to Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium for the last six years.
Alex Nevard, a sixth-year pupil at the city’s George Watson’s College, began drumming to raise funds for the charity during the 2018 Autumn Test matches and has become something of a fixture in the Roseburn area as fans flock to the turnstiles pre-match.
Under the banner of the “Wee Drummer Boy”, he began his mission after his Godmother had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
He has rarely missed a men’s international in the meantime and even though he is about to head to University in the north of England to study computer science, he is pledged to continue his perfect percussion to accompany fans on their route to the ground.
This week, pictured above, he presented a cheque for £12,500 in the shadow of the East Stand to Holly Frazer, Cancer Research UK’s Relationship Manager in Edinburgh.
Holly said: “Thanks to Alex for his dedication to raise money to fund the vital work of our researchers here in Edinburgh. It really is so appreciated.”
