FOSROC Future XV squad announced for FOSROC Super Series Championship

27 Jul 2023

FOSROC Future XV Head Coach Scott Lawson has confirmed the 29-man squad that will compete as part of the newly formed team in the 2023 FOSROC Super Series Championship.

The FOSROC Future XV is built upon the next generation of young Scottish players and has been introduced to the FOSROC Super Series Championship to better prepare Scotland’s young players for the challenges of international U20 rugby and beyond.

Many players in the squad have been involved within the Scotland U20 and professional club environment, with some new names who will benefit from the increased game time and level that the Super Series provides.

The squad contains 28 FOSROC Scottish Rugby Contracted Academy Players who are aligned to either Edinburgh Rugby or Glasgow Warriors where they train alongside the professional club’s senior players.

Currently, 13 of the players named are competing in the 2023 World Rugby U20 Trophy competition in Nairobi, Kenya and will be available to play for the FOSROC Future XV after Round 4.

During the period of these players being unavailable due to international duty, the team will be built from registered FOSROC Future XV players and completed by ‘permit players’ (players who are registered with one of the other Super Series squads who are available to support other Super Series squads on request) and emergency loan players from the domestic club games in Scotland.

Head Coach Scott Lawson said: “It’s a great opportunity for these young guys to come into the system and really see what the premier competition in Scottish Rugby is about.

“The main thing for us [as a coaching group] is how well can the players adapt and overcome the challenges of the other six teams that are very well established and have their different motives of the competition, and I’m excited to see the players rise to that challenge.”

The FOSROC Future XV will kick off their Super Series Championship campaign this Friday when they make their first appearance against Southern Knights at The Greenyards (kick off 7.35pm). Full highlights of this match will be available on the Scottish Rugby website on Monday evening.
