13.12.24 - Wales U20 v Scotland U20 - Warmup Six Nations Match - Hugo Alderson of Scotland kicks the ball away

A Scotland squad of largely U19 players travelled down, with some of the U20 players involved with Emerging Scotland.

Scotland’s try came from Merchiston Castle School flanker Zander Mactaggart in the 70th minute, and was converted by Edinburgh Rugby’s Ross Wolfenden.

Scotland had got over the line in the first half, but were held up as Wales defended in numbers.

Tries for the hosts came through Steff Emmanuel, Scott Delveno, Harry Rees-Weldon, Ryan Jones and Evan Lloyd.

The two sides play again next weekend, with more experienced Scotland U20 players involved.

Head Coach Kenny Murray said: “It was a good opportunity to give a largely U19 group a good game of rugby. Wales were an older and more experienced group because their boys who play in England aren’t available next week and you could see that out on the pitch, but we probably gave them two or three tries from errors, which was frustrating but a big learning for the boys.

“Just getting used to the tempo of the game was a big learning for some of the boys.

“We were quite pleased first half, there wasn’t much in it. It gave us the chance to see players and it was definitely a worthwhile exercise.”
