Scotland Women lock Sarah Bonar has been called up to represent the Barbarians Women’s team for a match against Wales later this month.
The clash will take place on Saturday 27 June at England’s Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, with the Barbarian’s Men’s team also taking on Wales in the opening match of a double-header.
After being announced as part of the world-famous Baa-baas squad, which will be led by coaches Susie Appleby and Sarah Hunter, the 51-time capped Scotland international, Bonar, said: “The Barbarians, for me, is one of those bucket list things.
“I have grown up idolising the Barbarians. They are a team made up of players from around the world that just go out there and have fun playing their rugby.
“The values of the Barbarians are that of enjoyment, connection and blending different cultures together and that really excites me. I’m very honoured to be asked to pe a part of the squad.”
Joining Bonar with the Baa-baas for the upcoming match against Wales is three of her former Scotland Women teammates, who were announced as part of the squad last week.
Adding front row experience, Chirstine Belisle has also been selected, as have scrum-halves Jenny Maxwell and Caity Mattinson, with the trio having won 119 Scotland Women caps between them.
This year’s Scottish contingent follow in the footsteps of fellow Scots Rhona Llloyd, Helen Nelson, Sarah Law, Megan Gaffney, Lauren Harries, Annabel Sergeant, Tracey Balmer and Susie Brown, and Scottish Rugby centurion Donna Kennedy, who has previously coached the Barbarians.
